ADA Done Right - Accessible Features at Hale Koa Pool in Honolulu

Recently the Hale Koa Hotel in Honolulu was renovated including accessible ramps and a wet play area at the Hale Koa Pool complex. The pool is a multi-level installation with a lower pool and an upper-infinity pool. It is very nice and the design includes ramps down into the lower level and up to the infinity pool.

Ramp to Lower Level at Hale Koa Pool

The photo on the right is the ramp that leads down into the lower pool. Note the gradual slope and handrails on both sides. Since the ramp makes a 180 degree turn, an accessible turning space is provided where the ramp turn is installed.

The upper level infinity pool can be reached using either a step system or the accessible ramp adjacent to the step system. See the photo on the left.

Hale Koa Pool Complex Play Area

The wet play area for children has accessible features and the flooring is non-slip with smooth transitions between surfaces. The photo on the right is one of the surface transitions.

The attention to detail for these Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) installations is significant and deserves praise. Congratulations to the Hale Koa Hotel for making this new pool complex very accessible to disabled people.
